Kiss My Aster, Chicago, IL
Overview: Through all the recent challenges our industry has faced, gardening is a terrific way to bargain with what’s going on and what lies in our future. Customer service roles have certainly taken on a new look and at times, garden center employees might even feel like the local therapist. How does our industry continue to foster the love for backyard gardening? This session will explore ways for garden centers can inspire their customers to connect with nature, get creative with their gardens and allow garden center teams to maintain a healthy and safe work environment.
Speaker Bio: Amanda Thomsen is a horticulturist, garden designer, keynote speaker, freelance writer, backyard consultant, and author living in suburban Chicago. Amanda wants to help the world live more sustainably (but without a load of effort and twice the fun!). She is currently a columnist for Green Profit magazine, which enables her to get to speak to people in the garden center and nursery industry.
Amanda has been working in gardens, garden centers and landscaping for the last 20 years. Her focus is bringing rule-breaking fun, a little kitsch and a lot of humor into an industry that is often thought of as stodgy and full of rules. Amanda speaks and gives classes at all-sized events throughout the United States.
